Unless Mom has been dropping some serious hard core hints about something she really
needs wants for Mother’s Day this year, don’t get her just any “thing.” You see, it’s not the “things” you think she wants that she will remember years from now.
Presents are nice don’t get me wrong.. The latest perfume or a new Michael Kors bag may invoke a joyful squeal of selfish excitement and she very well may indulge in some of that Organic dark chocolate for sure…
If you really want to WOW Mom in 2014, here are 5 things you can do to let mom know you love her;
5 things every Mom wants this year
1. A Vacation.
Somewhere nice, warm and all-inclusive preferably. I know… it would be nice but who can afford a vacation these days…if you can afford it? DO. IT.
2. A home-made creation that says “we care.”
If there is one thing all Moms can agree on it’s that there is nothing better than a gift of creative expression. A unique one of a kind masterpiece.. Yes, Mom’s love the macaroni necklaces, homemade cards and handpicked flowers from the garden. We truly do. These aren’t just things bought on a store shelf. Not to mention, it’s a one-of-a-kind exclusive limited edition a la YOU.
3. Time for herself.
This Mother’s day, why not let Mom sleep in… as long as she wants.. Let her go to the gym without anyone whining and making her feel guilty; allow her to go to the bathroom in peace! as long as she wants…
4. Time with you.
What you don’t believe it? Okay… if Mom is a blogger writer it may be hard for her to not compulsively Tweet and Instagram today. Don’t take offence. It’s just because she is having such a fantastic day with you and wants to make sure she captures every moment…
Appreciate her for being so proud of you that she can’t help but tell the world how fantastic her life is with you.
Give her your biggest smiles.
5. Not cook and clean for the
There’s no other way to write that other than the way you just read it.
Lift not a finger.
This part may take some preparation and planning. Don’t worry too much about it because mom will be happy with anything today that she does not have to do herself. Even if it tastes a little funny…
Most of all, the most thoughtful gift you can give Mom this year is to make her day gloriously magical. Don’t’ know how? Read on..
This is how can make Mother’s day magical for your mom;
Let Mom sleep in.
That’s right, Mom wants to sleep in and I don’t mean pressing the snooze button 2x sleep in, like really sleep in until at least 10:00am.
Don’t be the one to wake her.
Let her languish in the empty bed as long as she wants, until she has to get out because she has to potty.
Ah the potty.. the other thing mom wants today..er.. I mean everyday.
Mom wants to be able to use the potty in peace.
Please do not open the door.
Do not stick fingers, toys or notes under there in a desperate attempt to get her attention. Please do not let her hear you whining on the other side of the door.
Whatever you do, please resist the urge to knock okay?
You will be okay.
We just want to be able to do our business (whatever business that may be) without feeling rushed today, without thinking WWIII is erupting on the other side of the bathroom door.
When Mom sits on the potty today all she wants is Silence.
Ideally, she would love to be surprised with breakfast in bed. Nothing has to be fancy here (unless dads a wiz in the kitchen) some coffee, tea, fruit, eggs. Trust me, whatever you are able to put together will be perfect. It’s also the ideal time to present her with your lovingly created homemade Mother’s Day gifts.
After Mom has been well rested and fed, the next phase of magical mommies’ day involves giving her something she will have no clue what to do with… Something she likely hasn’t had in quite a while…
That’s right; free time.
Urge mom to go to the hot Yoga class she’s been putting off. Send her out to go get a Manicure/Pedicure, get her hair done even. Maybe she wants to just languish in the bath and read a book for an hour.
Everyone needs to pitch in everyday today and do moms share of the work. Roll up your sleeves, tidy up and pick up after yourselves. Put some laundry in, clean up the yard and be pro-active. The last thing mom wants to do today is to have to ask you to do anything at all.
When mom gets back from her “Me Time” she will be well rested, beaming and so very impressed of all the effort you’ve made to make her day so special she will now want to spend the best part of her magical day with you.
Spending time with you is what it really means to be a Mom.
Spending time with you and you enjoying it as much as she does, is a gift any Mom, anywhere wants this Mother’s day.
If she wants to capture these memories, let her.
After all, these are precisely the “things” she will remember years from now.
