With Christmas fast approaching, finding the right gift can be hard. Even for kids. We live in the digital age, where many kids clamour over electronic toys. I know mine do. Even my toddler can navigate an iPad with ease. So what do you buy the kid that has everything? A Puppy! Not a live one of course! We all know buying live pets for Christmas isn’t a good idea. As much as they “promise” to walk it, feed it and clean up after it, the novelty of owning a live pet wears off quickly. Believe me. I’ve been there and am still doing it! About five years ago, all my kids wanted for Christmas was a dog. They begged and pleaded and left little reminder notes all around the house. We spent hours discussing the pros and cons of owning a pet. Especially one who depended on you to fulfil their every need.
(This is Ziggy Then & Now)
“I will wake up early and walk him before school” one said. “I will pick up the poop everyday” said another. After weeks of debating and tears we caved and got Ziggy. He’s a “designer” dog. Some may call him a mutt. He’s 1/2 pug and 1/2 Mexican rat terrier. He was cute and cuddly and the kids gave him so much attention… they fed him, made sure he had water, fought over who would take him out for a walk… at first. Slowly but surely over that year the interest waned, until one day the poor pooch was following me around ALL THE TIME. Gone was the water, the food, the walks and the playful attention… but NOT the poop. It was still there.. everywhere! It got to the point where we’d have to fight and argue over who would walk poor Ziggy. As you can guess, to this day it’s my husband and I who feed, walk and play with him. And yes, my husbYnd is now tasked with picking up poop. It’s all we ever dreamed of!.. NOT!
So what do you buy the kid who has everything (including a tablet?) A puppy, yes! But take my humble suggestion and get the kid a Tekno Puppy!
Tekno Puppy does not need to be fed or walked and you don’t need to pick up any poop. What can be better? There’s no vet bills, no shedding hair and you don’t have to worry about getting someone to watch him while you go on vacation.
Thanks to the wonderful world of technology, you can give the gift of pet ownership to your kids without all the hassle of buying a real dog. Tekno Puppy can be used manually, with hand gestures and speech or controlled with any tablet or kindle. Aimed for kids 5 and up Tekno Puppy almost comes ready to use. (it does require 4 AA batteries that are not included) Set up is a snap! quite literally! Simply insert the batteries and you are ready to play. It is easy to get out of the box with only 2 twist ties. It appeared one of Tekno Puppies ears was broken, it was not moving, until careful examination revealed that there was a clear elastic band holding it up. I didn’t find anything about this in the instructions, but once it was removed the ear worked perfectly fine.
We first played with it in manual mode while hub’s downloaded the iPad app. I must say, Tekno Puppy is so much fun to play with! In minutes I had the hand commands down packed. You simply put your hand in front of his face (about 3-6 inches) and he will stop. The tricks were a bit tricky to get but once you get the feel you’ll have him sitting and jumping in no time. Before he can jump, you must make him sit. You do this by putting your hand in front of his face for about 3 seconds then wave your hand downwards and he sits, like a good puppy should!. Put your hand in front of his face again and wave upwards and Tekno Puppy will do a back flip! It’s soo cool! Hubs and I began to get jealous over who could keep doing it. Note that if while in the sitting position you neglect to pay Tekno Puppy any attention, after about 10 seconds he’ll jump on his own! Word of caution, dont get too close to it while he’s in sitting mode as someone could get hurt!
Downloading the Tekno Puppy app opened up a whole new world of play. You can control and command him to do everything possible. Tekno Puppy will bark, whine, walk and eat. If you hold the included bone up to his mouth, he will make the sounds and move around like he is eating the most delicious bone on the planet. He can even hold the ball (also included) up under his chin!
In no time at all we had him barking, walking, playing and dancing. Yes, he even dances. Tekno puppy also responds to sound and touch. It’s a very intelligent canine companion. It shows emotions with the lights in his eyes indicating if he’s happy, sad or angry. He wags his tail and will walk to you when you call him out by name. If he’s sad or angry all you have to do is pet him and he’ll stop. The interaction possibilities push Tekno Puppy beyond the toy category. Tekno Puppy is an interactive smart toy. I know I mentioned that he can flip, sit and jump. You can get him to stop instantly by putting your hand up in front of him. (If only real dogs could listen so well!) Tekno Puppy also falls asleep at night and cries if left alone too long. His head and ears move and his tail wags, just like a real puppy. He will also interact with other Tekno Robots.
This is one pet, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy any kid.
